Our Story
Zanskar Himalayan Exploration (ZHE) is a locally owned and operated
travel and
adventure company based in Ladakh, India. Founded in 2007 by Mr. Stanzin Chotchan,
ZHE was born out of a deep love for the mountains, their people, and the delicate
ecosystems
that bind them together.
Before founding ZHE, Mr. Stanzin spent over six years working as a professional
adventure
guide across the Himalayas—including Ladakh, Sikkim, and Nepal. His extensive
experience with high-altitude trekking, mountaineering, and guiding gave him a
profound
respect for nature and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by remote
mountain
communities. Inspired by this journey, he returned home to Zanskar to build
something of his
own—an organization that celebrates authentic Himalayan adventure, local culture,
and
sustainable travel.
